I am excited to share a new eats place with you that I found at the farmer’s market a few weeks back. They were there handing out samples (hello!) of their kale salad. I’ve not really had kale and for this being a first it was a great introduction to it!
The restaurant is called Lot 2 and there’s a husband wife team behind it. It’s located in the Benson area of Omaha, NE and it’s very cozy inside. Now, on to the good stuff!
So this kale salad sample that I had was such a tease. I had been thinking about it since I had it but our schedules couldn’t get us there until a couple weeks later. Worth the wait!
We opted out of getting an appetizer and went straight for salads. I had the kale salad (shocker, I know) and it had the right amount of capers, golden raisins, and walnuts mixed in and was topped off with Parmesan and a lovely yogurt dressing. Hubs had the beet salad. It looked amazing! Braised red cabbage mixed with golden beets resting on crème fraîche and topped with greens and marcona almonds. I don’t like beets but Hubs said it’s the best he’s ever had. I’ll take his word for it and suggest you try it if you like beets.
For our mains we went with the L2 Cheeseburger and Steak & Frites. We both ordered our meats cooked medium rare which they delivered on. Perfect cook on both! The cheeseburger had the usual fare of lettuce and tomato but with a bacon-onion marmalade (say what?!) on a brioche bun. I mean come on. Bacon-onion marmalade? Brioche bun? I’m sold! But wait. It gets better. These guys make their own ketchup! I’m not a huge ketchup fan but I could not get enough of it. I dipped every one of my fries in it as well as my burger. Soo good!
Ok enough about the burger. The steak & frites served up a Piedmontese flat iron steak. I did not know what Piedmontese was but now I do and shall share with you. It is a type of crossbred cattle from Italy’s Piedmont region. Their breeders promote their meat as low in fat but tender and flavorful. Hmm, interesting. But how did it taste? Again I did not get to sample (or a picture!) but Hubs said it was delicious and he liked how it wasn’t slathered in butter like another restaurant we frequent does. The frites portion was very generous.
We ended our meal with doughnut holes and cappuccinos. These little guys were filled with just the right amount of caramel and had a nice buttercream sauce to dip them in. The cappuccino was probably the strongest I’ve ever had. It was good but whoa! Needless to say I will be coming back again and hope to see you there!
